Wednesday October 13th

On Wednesday October 13th, the doctors at Prairie EyeCare Center will donate a portion of the eye exam fees to Optometry Giving Sight through the World Sight Day Challenge.

Optometry Giving Sight funds projects that seek to ensure sustainable, lasting results in three ways:

  • Eye care service delivery - exams, low-cost eye glasses and low-vision devices

  • Human Resources - training of optometrists, eye care personnel and their teachers

  • Infrastructure development – establishment and support of vision centers, eye clinics and schools of optometry.

To date more than $3 million has been allocated / disbursed to projects that have helped to screen and provide basic eye care services to more than 1.7 million people, train 1550 mid-level eye care personnel and create more than 100 vision centers / optical workshops.

Optometry Giving Sight has directed funds to programs in the following countries:
Malawi; Mozambique; Tanzania; Eritrea; South Africa; Zambia; Sri Lanka; East Timor; Vietnam; China; Indigenous Australia; Papua New Guinea; India; Nicaragua; Mexico; Haiti; Peru and Afghanistan.

Over the next few days we journey around the world to hear about wonderful success stories and current projects of the Optometry Giving Sight program.  If you would like to contribute call us (308)872-2291.
